Young people of today!
with this book in your hands
imagine you are listening to
an old radiogram bought
in a retro sale. It plays
45s, 33s, even 78s and 16s
and it is tuned in to a station
still broadcasting in 1959
with its funny ads for patent medicine
and the voices of ‘live’ or
recorded actors. The theme song
of ‘Take it from here’
reminds you to warm up the television
adjusting the picture
as Jet Jackson
radios his sidekick
Ichabod Mudd (Mudd with
two Ds and a Bronx accent)
from the airplane:
‘Icky . . . Icky . . . can you read me?’
